Large Silver Overlay Vase by Friedrich Spahr

Code: OWA2026

SOLD

Stock Number: – OWA2026

Date: - Circa 1940s

Materials: – Thomas Ivory Porcelain &  Friedrich Spahr Schwåbisch Gmünd silver

Country of Origin: – Germany

Description: – An extremely fine Thomas porcelain vase decorated in the silver studios of Friedrich Spahr with a delightful floral design in thick silver overlay. The silver is further enhanced with fine engraving. There is a slight 1cm loss of silver to one flower which can be seen in the images. This does in no way detract from the beauty of this vase, nor is it easily seen.

Size & Weight: – The vase is 29cm tall & 13.5cm across the rim. The vase weighs 2125g

Condition: – The porcelain has no chips, cracks, hairlines, crazing, losses or restoration. There is a slight 1cm loss of silver to one flower which can be seen in the images.  Obviously after 80+ years of care there are very minor surface scratches to the silver following years of love, care and attention.

Photography: - Please look at the images as they show a true status of this delightful vase. There are some light reflections seen following the photography and are not discolourations to the glaze.

History & Marks:– The Thomas porcelain marks used between 1939 to 1952. The Spahr silver marks appear to have been erased away from years of cleaning. This often happens due to the light pressure applied during the marking, some are struck very lightly and easily wear away over time. However, the pattern and decoration is a well recognised pattern by Friedrich Spahr

Declaration:– This is original Thomas Ivory Porcelain from the time period described. The silver overlay is that from the Schwåbisch Gmünd silver studios of Friedrich Spahr.
